Why do people not like Delphox?
Its not that people dislike it, its that people prefer Braixen. Most people want Pokemon to 'just get bigger', but outside of the first 2 gens the Pokemon designers rarely have that in mind.

Its model isn't as dynamic as Braixens, and it doesn't have a good movepool or Hidden Ability, unlike Greninja and Chesnaught. If it had more animations and a deeper movepool more befitting a mage, people might like it more.

Legit question, why do people prefer Braixen? I am not a huge fan of the line in general, but I think Delphox gets closer to the mark of fox wizard. Braixen just looks awkward to me, and certainly more likely to appear to the furry demographic.

Braixen's stick in tail shit is the most awkward design ever. Yeah it's supposed to resemble a witch's broom, but it just looks dumb with the stick stuck firmly in the tail.

Because the in-game model is disgusting. Also I was personally hoping for a quadrupedal fire final evolved starter. I'm so sick of everything turning bipedal and fighting.
I really like it,but as most people said, the model didn't turned out that great. Fire/Psychic is a great type combination for a starter, especially if you're a casual player.
I don't think the 3DS was "ready" for 3D models. Usually just the simpler sprites get a good result if you ask me.

Based on its own flaws and not comparing it to Braixen:

But Magician is great. It's the reason why I love Delphox. Put Overheat or Solar Beam and a herb item on Delphox for maximum fun. White Herb lets you use Overheat twice at full power and lets you steal the items in the 2nd turn while Power Herb lets you instantly fire off a Solar Beam and steal an item the same turn you use it.

Delphox looks shabby and dirty. The muddy-ochre color of the robes looks disgusting, and they look torn and tattered.
Braixen is lithe and elegant, as was Fennekin. Delphox looks like it needs a fucking bath and a haircut. It ruined the best starter line, ever.
