While they arguably originated in D&D (at least mimmics, anyway), they're popular in other rpgs as well, and are find in most JRPGs. Owlbears are pretty much unknown in Japan.

Some of these designs he makes are good, some are okay but the art is beautiful, and some are just so hideously ugly and trying so hard for "realer than real" it's aggravating.
