Yeah. Originally, pokemon was playground rumors and Nintendo Power (who would think of having to *trade* their precious Graveller away to make it evolve? Who in their right mind would ever use Magikarp?), so a lot of Gen 1-3 pokemon had awful special requirements.
Now we have the internet, so we can just look up the bit about holding your 3DS upside-down or using pokemon Amie to evo your Pokemon.
