The only redeeming aspects about this series are Sugimori's designs and Masuda's music.
Gamefreak knows they don't need to put effort or innovate or do anything that would get any other developers lit up for.
Pokemon Showdown is one of the best things to happen to the series in recent memory.
Designs have, on average, gotten less realistic (ie Ponyta vs Keldeo, Mew vs Hoopa), but this isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Serena is objectively the best female design to date.
You can have other preferences, and that's fine, but there's not getting around the clear superiority of Serena. Only edgelords and contrarians will attempt to dispute this fact.
