Funny, crippling depression and constant, unwavering suicidal thoughts are the first thing that come to my mind when I think of Gen V. I actually don't want to play those games anymore because they bring back too many memories of me trying to pacify myself with Pokemon.
Gen 6, meanwhile, has some of the best memories of my life. Maybe not as positive as my early memories with Gen 2/3, but I already feel nostalgia for X/Y because of it.
Let me guess, you're in your late teens or early 20s? It WILL get better. I know you don't think it will, but it will. I hate to say it, but sometimes all you really need to do is hit rock bottom before it starts to get better.

Time flies man. I remember going on the internet when I was 10/11 for any new pokemon news and found Groudon and Kyogre. I was shocked by how different their designs were. Then Ruby and Sapphire finally came out a few months later, I immediately got Ruby. This memory isn't quite the the same as of when I was 5 and playing Blue because it's all fogged up and vague. This memory is so vivid to me because I still feel Ruby and Sapphire only came out recently. Now it's been over a year since the REMAKES of Ruby/Sapphire came out. Fuck.
