Cyndaquil still looks nothing like a mouse and it's evolutions are the furthest thing from it. The Pokedex doesn't mean shit because it also claims that Macargo is hotter than the sun

None of them are exactly any type of living creature, they resemble real world/mythological creatures

Foxes are a part of the family canidae, the same as wolves, jackals and dogs.
Cyndaquil might look like an echidna, but it is called the "fire mouse" pokemon. Why wasn't it called the "fire echidna" pokemon instead? Because it's to tie it to the Chinese zodiac as the Rat. Even in Japan it is known as the "ひねずみポケモン "

If GF specifically said that fire type starters are based on the zodiac people would argue that they're not. Just look at the argument against Cyndaquil. GF classified it as the fire MOUSE and people argue that it doesn't count. They're too fucking stupid to understand that a MONSTER can be based on multiple things. If the next fire starter is a snake anti-zodiacs would say it's a worm, if it's a rabbit they'll say it's a wolpertinger, if it's an ox they'll say it's a buffalo or bull, if it's a goat they'll say it's a sheep, if it's a tiger they'll say it's another member of the big cat family and if it's a horse they'll say it's a zebra or a donkey.
