Wait, what the fuck is it then?
When I was a kid, I called Charizard "Chizzard." In my defense I was in like, 1st grade, and the anime wasn't even at the point where Ash had a Charmeleon yet.

Wail-ord
>>25726441
But that's right
Tyrogue as ['tai.ro.gju] for a couple months until I learned the word 'rogue'
>>25726531
What's the difference?
>>25726574
WHALE (as in blue whale)
WAIL (as in wailing in pain)
>>25726585
many (maybe even most) English dialects don't differentiate those sounds
>>25726605
I'd go so far as to say all. I mean there're definitely varieties that use pronunciations other than [eJl] but I can't think of any where those represent different vowel sounds.
Unless he means the w - wh split..?
>>25726534
It isn't. The only reason it's pronounced that way in the anime is to avoid "arse" for the British audience. Outside of the anime, it's always pronounced "ar-see-us".
You all have to be dyslexic or mentally incapacitated, because...
>Jenjar
>Pony-tie
it's not Rai-koo but rai-co
>Kakishan instead of Kangaskhan
I think my friend is illiterate.
Also, until the second movie, I pronounced Lugia with a soft G. I also said Rayquaza as ray-kwahz-ah instead of ray-kway-zah
Macargo

Kazakhstan
>>25726810
Jengar could at least make sense
Suisoon is just unacceptable though, C and G can only be soft before E and I
>>25727189
>I also said Rayquaza as ray-kwahz-ah instead of ray-kway-zah
And you were right
Is it spelled Rayquayza? Nope, so no "ay" in the second syllabe
S-kept-ile
>>25727222
If you say it fast the g is practically silent anyway.
>>25727415
Stops like k and t can be omitted in some languages.
Some people think in Roman Latin, the T wasn't really pronounced.
>>25726286
>be 7-8 during original Blue
>can barely read
>hadn't seen the anime yet
>fight Brock's first mon
>"...GundoGuy"
Also, Goldenrod City for the longest time was Glenlord City
>>25726417
Way-Lord
>>25727502
>GundoGuy
Is this supposed to be Geodude?
>>25726400
>>25727337
What is a quasar?
Shedninja
>>25727646
Do anglos unironically pronounce it "qway-sar" instead of "qwah-sar" when it comes from the Latin word "quasi" (pronounced qwah-see)?
A retarded language for a retarded people...

It's like he doesn't even know phonology
>>25727671
Anglo have an hard time pronouncing everything , I mean just on this board you often have "How do you pronounce this name" or "I didn't pronounce this pokemon name right" thread.
Shouldn't Blastoise rhyme with tortoise? Has everyone been pronouncing it wrong all this time?
>>25726749
>Outside of the anime, it's always pronounced "ar-see-us".
3D Pro it's ARK
like >>25727686
"Chesnaught"
>>25727707
Except those are entirely made up words
Quasar is one too, but the whole "qua" part is taken from "quasi", so it's pronounced the same (kwah)

>>25727502
I legit almost shit my pants laughing
>>25727734
I can add words which aren't made up.
blazer (the jacket)
hazer
razor
Now go find a rhyming dictionary online and see that before any sort of "e" sound (or even a silent e) in English, you often find an "ayyy" sound.
Girafaring and Milktank
>>25727731
That's literally its name. What are you implying?
>>25727735
Wow, some retard mispronouncing it on Youtube
It sure proves your point!
Come back when you have a justification for pronouncing quasi as kway-zee
>>25727734
>>25727671
>Not knowing how variations of phonology work
>Attempting to use latin pronunciation as a guide to English pronunciation.
No language pronounces its latin roots and loanwords the way they were actually spoken in the Roman Empire, not even Romance languages. Additionally, these are all fictional names that are creative translation of the Japanese original names.
Bitching about these differences is about as useful as "Pikachu". In Japanese, it's pee-kah-chu. In English, it's pee-kuh-chu. Which one is right? The original or the one that's actually used in English?
It doesn't matter what the root of a word is: only the colloquial use. Of course 4chan has many different English speaking regions interacting, so cunts like you will find a reason to bitch about the differences.
>>25727814
>In English, it's pee-kuh-chu
Just when I thought that Anglos couldnt fall any lower....
>>25727843
>not knowing that English uses the mid central vowel
>>25727796
u just got pranked
>>25727734
"Gazing" is only a made up word as far as all words are made up.
Truth is English doesn't have any set rules for this kind of stuff. Quasar is pronounced kway-zar, but it could easily be pronounced kwah-zar as well. That's why there are so many words that can have different sounds despite being spelled the same (bow/bow, lead/lead)
Furfroo
>>25727789I genuinely believed it was "Milktank" this entire time
>>25726749
Its arKeus from the greek word αρχη (beginning)
>>25728170
They could've spelled it Archeus or Arkheus then.
>Hippo tan.
That Pokerap when too fast for me.
I kind of accepted it since I associated the word Hippo with Boxing ever since Punch Out.
>>25728039
How is that wrong?
>>25728286
It's french so it's "Fur Frow"
>Those kids that would say "Fizz Duck"
>>25728339
"ou" is pronounced "oo" in french
Hippopotatoes
>>25726400
I still don't know if I pronounce his name correctly.
