Hi, /vp/, it's been a long time since I've posted this kind of thing, but with my "new" model complete I wanted to share it with you all to get some feedback or just show what I do.

I'm a big LEGO fan, and more of a /toy/ soldier in general, but I'm also a big fan of Pokémon, obviously, and the only logical thing to do would be to recreate some of my favourite.

Which is what I've done. Here is my Marowak, which is actually the third model I've designed in this style, and the second to be made in real pieces.
>>
>>25714939
Wait, you made this? Like you made the Legos your self or...? How is this possible.

My goal is to articulate them as much as possible, but since marowak is pretty small, it's not as articulated as I would have liked.

How'd you do that thing with the helmets for the ends of the bone? That can't be regulation.
>>
>>25714939
That's awesome, nice job. I'm always surprised by what people can make with the different styles of lego together. what are the other two models?

I made the model using existing bricks, every piece you can see on the model is real, none have been molded or anything, it's all coming from regular LEGO sets.

The technic used to maintain the helmets in place isn't legal, as you did notice. it's using a pneumatic piece which is T-shaped to maintain both helmets together and then to the shaft of the bone. You can see it a bit better on picture related.

Thank you very much, I'll show the second model in my next post.

Thank you !

Here is the second model I've created, only using the official LEGO software at the moment, it's not been built since I'm not 100% happy with the result and will be modifying it heavily to look smoother and more natural. It actually came to be because I wanted to try and test how to have an eye with the goggles on a small and compact head.

This is the goal I wanted to aim for. I want them to be as organic as possible and not look too awkward, and for example, Marowak's head have gotten more or less ten different designs so it could look as close as possible to the real thing. I'm still not 100% satisfied, but since it's been one of the most difficult building moments I've had, I'm still happy with the result.

Here is a simple go at Darmanitan's face, since an anon on /toy/ tried to make one and inspired me. This isn't to scale at all with my models, and I probably won't go further on that design, since it was just made for fun, but still, I like the idea of doing less popular Pokémon.

This, though, has entirely been designed for a big Rotom fan on /vp/. I've tried many designs for the eyes, and finally came up with something close enough to the official design. You're supposed to wrap a white rubber band around each eye to get the right look, and the sphere on the botom didn't want to work since the actual design is considered illegal, since it put pressure on the pieces.

You should really try LEGO Digital Designer, it's a free software you can find on the official website and once you get used to how it works, it's really very useful. I tend to switch back and forth between real pieces and the software to try different builds and to check how strong the build is.

>>25715113
Mostly Nintendo generals, though I think we have a Pokémon merchandise thread right now ?

Also, finally, here is the first LEGO Pokémon I've designed in this style, and my favourite Pokémon, Swampert. This is actually the second version, which I've just finished. The body is stronger, the head is more accurate, and the arms have way more articulation.

This picture shows something I'm very happy about : the fact that the model can stand in some poses using only its legs, even thought I was sure that it wouldn't be able to do it.

Also, I may do an earthquake base, since it's one of the most useful attacks it learns, and I think it would look pretty damn cool. I also want to try doing an Ice Punch effect, thought I'll need to see how the anime represent the attack, since the games are very abstract about that. I suppose you could say this pose represent brick break, since it's an attack I really like my Swampert to know.
>>
>>25715017
Yeah, I'm pretty new to the whole "MOC"ing scene but I've been slapping bricks together since I was a tot so I know an illegal connection when I see one, usually.

Pretty solid Marowak, for sure. I built a Sceptile once many years ago but he's been long since broken down for parts, and I daresay his construction wasn't half as adventurous as these.

>fellow toy soldier (Robot Damashii collector)
>saw the Lego General using the Swampert picture

I'm so glad to see more of your work, as I loved your Swampert build when I saw it earlier on /toy.

All of your builds look great, especially after you've polished them to the level of your Marowak and Swampert.

I still own some Lego, but only Staw Wars Clone Wars stuff from 6-8 years ago. I should pick up some sets for some new pieces and get back into building again. I've known about the official program, but there's something great about building with actual pieces.

Anyway, keep it up anon, you're great at this!

It's funny, because I really like sceptile and I do have an idea on how to do the tail, but I'm not sure I'll be able to design a head good enough. I may try that after I get the Flygon done, though I try to vary the colours of the Pokémon used as much as I can, for it not to get too boring to look at.

Also, for comparison purposes, here is the first version of Swampert with Marowak, and yeah, that's a big Marowak.

Thanks, and yeah, I think LEGO Digital Designer is great when you need to check if things would fit, but if you don't know what you're doing,or don't have a basic idea of the thing you want to make, it can be way more difficult to work with than just sitting in front of your pieces and play directly with them. And thanks, I do plan on doing more, I really want to do a Toxicroak and an Togekiss as I've said before, though I'm not sure how much time it will take.

I think you should try something like this, but more polygonal to look more like ice. Just trying to help!

>>25715328
OH MAN, I'd love to see a Toxicroak.

Are Mixels still a thing? Aren't they a good way to get some new joint pieces for cheap? I've always loved building mecha out of Lego, so the nifty joint pieces you used on Marowak's shoulder joints are intriguing to me.

Sceptile's my absolute favorite, glad to see a fellow aficionado. What I did for Sceptile's tail is I used those palm tree parts from the old pirate sets, and set them up facing inwards so their natural angle would form the "X" shape of Sceptile's tail. The head I made wasn't particularly complex compared to the level of detail on your guys, these days I'd probably use some green poky bits like you used for Swampert's top lip in order to create Sceptile's signature head ridges. The eyes might be the trickiest part, with his red "dark circles" and all they're pretty complex.

You know, this is actually pretty much how I did it the first time around ! I want to try something thinner, like some kind of ice energy soaking throught the fingers and trailing on the forearm.

>>25715350
The mixels are still a thing and are available on three separate wave each year, on february, june and october. We're at series 7 for the time being. The joints I've used on marowak (and on Swampert second version too, actually) are 1x1 circular plates with a balljoint on the end. It's a rather old piece, which appeared in these sets :

http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=3614b#T=C

but is also compatible with the mixels system. Whenever a regular LEGO System piece has a balljoint, you can be sure it's most likely compatible with the Mixel system. The friction is always created by the ballcup, so even if the balljoint is an old model, it still works.
>>
>>25715409
The palm tree idea is geninely impressive. I thought about using the same piece I've used for the whiskers on the new version of Swampert, which might look good as sort of leaves. Do you still have your model ? I would love to see how it looks exactly, and yeah, Sceptile is awesome, though I prefer the more recent artworks, where he's depicted more agile and fast.

Oh and, also, I totally forgot, but here is the basic idea I've got for toxicroak's upper lip, I'm pretty sure the black lines on the head will be a nightmare to make, but there's no point if it's not challenging, right ?
>>
>>25715557
How many bricks do you own?
>>
>>25715483
The ice punch doesn't look bad. It's a little simple, but it works well enough if you ask me.

Nice. I think I might try to pick up some Mixels sets soon to build up my piece library and get back into building occasionally. I'm also an artist, and I really felt that Lego helped me be more creative in general, so I think it could help me draw more too.

>>25715557
>hot dogs
Genius. Heh. It's a great look for the lips, but yeah, I can see Toxicroak being a very difficult build to pull off, but if done right, I think it would also be very expressive and articulate.
>>
>>25715633
way, waaaaaay too much. and the worst thing is... it's a mess, they're not sorted out. most of the time, I don't even bother searching within my old pieces and just buy what I need from bricklink since most of my creations are kept built.

Unfortunately he went to pieces a long time ago. His palm fronds are currently involved in a childhood Bionicle OCdonutsteel I've been working on remaking with my current construction knowledge.

I love the modern lanky Sceptiles too, but I'll always have a fond place in my heart for his smug as fuck expression in the original Sugimori art.

Yeah, I do like the smug expression of the original art too, but the problem with sugimori's arti in general is that everything he draws looks so static, and I love me some dynamism.

Also, I would really like to see what you did with that Bionicle OC since I'm first and foremost a Bionicle builder (yeah, my mewtwo is pretty shit, I know).
