How good would an AI be at Pokemon?

After all the buzz with the Google computer that beat Lee Se-Dol, and the Microsoft program Tay that ended up going rogue, it'd be interesting to see the advances in learning AI be applied to gaming. Pokemon would be an interesting place to start.

After all, between Smogon and Pokemon Showdown, you already have a wealth of information to feed it so it can formulate strategies.

Assuming the AI would have the same limitations as the player (ie: not having battle frontier level RNG hax) it could probably be exploited fairly quickly. AI doesn't do very well in games that involve hidden information.

That's what I expected. A learning AI would be very interesting as a final boss to the game. Imagine an enemy that doesn't just know every aspect of the game, but parses every action you make as data to base the strategy and team it uses against you.
