Well, I skipped Gen IV and V, but a friend lend me his DS with Black, didn't even beat the second gym, but I bought and enjoyed Y and spent more than 700 hours.

The only people who thinks that X/Y weren't disappointing are either under 16 years old or a literal retard. I'm not trolling either, the content in the games were atrocious and an explicit insult to long time players like me who have been playing since Red/Blue. The only good things about X/Y are the somewhat upgraded graphics and the new pokemons designs which are the best since Johto IMO.
I'm fully expecting S/M to be pathetic too but I'm desperate to be wrong.

X and Y were awesome. Better breeding mechanics, a more alive world, Super training, all the wifi features. There's tons of content in X Y over RBY

I enjoyed XY up to a certain point. That point being Korrina's Lucario shit at the tower. "Lol, I'll give you a super powerful mega". Things just kinda went flat and dull after that. Grant was a bit of a warning signal with his shit tier team but... Fuck. After Korrina, things just became so easy and stupid. All the forced-in different environments, general easiness, a lackluster Champion and no postgame. I really don't expect much out of SM, but I'm going to get it. I always do.

This doesn't work with Pokemon because the designs vary so fucking much it's subjective regardless of how many they shit out. On average I liked gen 5's designs more than gen 6 and gen 2 has a lot of my least favorite Pokemon even though it only introduced 100.
