How the fuck are you suppose to grind for the league when victory road almost always gives Lv.39 Geodudes
>>
Dude the AI in R/B/Y is so fuckign dodgy your entire team could be 20 levels below Lorelei and still win.
>>
>>25701681
Strategize, make use of buffing items like Attack X, exploit AI loopholes and be victorious.
>>
>>25701681
Did you go through every single area?
Skipping seafoam islands and or the power plant makes you miss out on some potential EXP.
>>
>>25701745
Seafoam Island and Power Plant aren't good for exp, though. There's no trainers in there and the wild pokemon aren't any better than in Victory Road.

What you really do is just go at whatever level you're at. Trainers in this game have bad AI and predictable movesets. As long as you have a pokemon that is super-effective against the opponent's theme, you pretty much automatically win. Same applies to the champion, except you have to switch around a bit more there. At most, you might want to bring some healing items for in-between battles.

R/B/Y require zero grinding, just git gud.
Pic related, that required no grinding.

Alright this is the team I got in yellow and can't get past Gary's first two

>Pikachu

Slam
Double team

>Nidoking
Earthquake
Focus energy
Horn Attack
Mega Kick

>Gengar
Hypnosis
Confuse Ray
Night Shade
Psychic

>Machamp

Focus energy
Seismic toss

>Arcanine

Fire Blast
Leer
Take down

>Dragonair
Blizzard
Body slam
Thunder wave
Thunderbolt
>>
>>25702333
I always loved the combo of T-wave Pikachu and Horn Drill Nidoking.
>>
>>25702333
Pikachu also knows thunder
>>
>>25702317
>using mew

Of course it'd be easy
>>
>>25702368
It's not much different than using Alakazam, Hypno or Mr.Mime.
Also it was pretty much Pikachu and Kabutops doing all the work.
>>
>>25701681
Get Alakazam.

Congratulations, you win the game. Level is irrelevant as long as it knows psychic.
>>
>>25701726
>Buffing Items

It ain't no rpg m80
>>
>>25702396

Not true, you'll run out of uses before it beats everyone
>>
>>25702333
>No Surf
>No Water Attacks at all
>Focus Energy in Gen1
Can't that way overleveled Gengar just sweep? Use a revive on it whenever it goes down (just wasting one of the 3 shitters for the turn).

Give it Psybeam too
>>
>>25702452
Agatha's arbok fucks it over hard
>wrap doesn't hurt gengar but still immobilized
>Glare makes it paralyzed so cut speed and a chance to not move
And he just came from whipping bruno so psychic is halfway used
>>
>>25702505
My Haunter (>>25702317) easily beat that Arbok with Hypnosis+Dream Eater.
You could just try and bust through the bullshit and EarthQuake it to death.
>>
>>25702537
I would but nidoking hits himself in confusion more than narsasistic masochist
>>
The A.I is so shit you can cheese them with level 45's.
>>
>>25702549
>just try and bust through the bullshit
You save before the battle, right?
>>
>>25702556
This. Only thing to worry about is hyper beam since it doesn't need to recharge if it ko's
>>
>>25701681
There's no reason to grind in any Pokemon game and RBY is no exception. Just battling every trainer will make you a high enough level to beat the game, there is absolutely no need to ever grind against wild Pokemon. The trainers have poor AI and they never switch out (except one trainer in Koga's gym who just randomly keeps switching his Pokemon out for some reason). Knowledge of type match-ups is all you need, just be sure to stock up on healing items before you face the elite four.

>always switch out during trainer battles so each of my mon's get experience for at least one fight
>if I feel like they're underleveled I spend some time on them for a bit, but if you play smart, levels don't matter

R/B/Y are some of the easiest Pokemon games ever made, only bested by Johto in the terms of sheer casual appeal and gameplay.
>>
>>25701681
Daily reminder that the easiest way to beat Lance is to use a type weak to psychic moves because the retard will make his dragonite spam reflect over and over.
>>
>>25702156
This seriously explains why Alakazams almost always wrecked my shit in relation to the others
>>
>>25701681
>get aerodactyl
>sweep most of E4
>just break out hitmonlee when snorlax is out

At least Yellow's Gary was an actual threat. You should check out his team in Blue.
>>
>>25702156

Smell ya later!
>>
Wasn't there a trick to do in RBY that involved using a pokemon that's weak to psychic, against Lance's Dragonite so that it would keep spamming Agility?
>>
People are severely underestimating the usage of X-items in gen 1.

X Special and X Accuracy for your Thunder-user against Lorelei, X Speed and X Attack to outpace and rolls through Agatha's annoying, yet frail status-inducers, and X Special and X Speed to completely shut down Lance with an Ice Beamer after you flatten his Gyarados. Bruno is piss easy and Blue is only difficult if you can't cover his types. And all of this while incredibly underleveled. My Pokemon were just breaking level 50 going in.

X Accuracy (and X Speed if required) are great for Wrap/Bind/Fire Spin/Clamp users.
>>
Beat the E4 with a team full of 40's, no grinding, boxxed my starter. Just get food OP, it feels great beating idiotic AI with underdogs
>>
>>25703264
Works on his Dragonairs as well. I just had Beedrill set up on them and proceed to win.
>>
>>25702556
I beat them with my Pokemon in their 30s
>>
I just beat Red Version

I always thought Oak was overly harsh to your rival right before you get entered into the hall of fame. Maybe that's just me.
>>
Considering getting one of these since I don't have any form of playing my original carts but I'm torn between picking up Red or Yellow. Red was always my favorite but I don't know about playing in monochromatic
>>
>>25702333
>Not using agility+Wrap dragonair

Are you braindead?
>>
>>25706793
Why not Thunder Wave + Wrap instead?
>>
>>25706942
Thunder Wave lets you outspeed one Pokemon at a time. Agility lets you outspeed everything after only using it once.
>>
>>25701681
I did it without grinding, my team was mid 40s.
Honestly speaking I have no idea how I did it, Blue's Jolteon is a motherfucker.

what kind of fucking faggot underage am I posting with here
>>
Gen 1 doesn't require any grinding on wild pokemon like gen 2 did. All you have to do is take optional routes and fight all the trainers.
>>
Filling my entire PC with machops, mewtwos and aerodactyls. Don't forget: key item fossils can be duped.
>>
In all honesty, doesn't all the games have crappy wildlife scaling?
sure, there are those games that are even wose than the rest, but i'd say every game has some bad scaling
Why?

Cause you're supposed to fucking grind!
>>
In Yellow I somehow won with my team level being between 46 and 51.

>Pikachu (lv.48, Thundershock/Thunderbolt/Thunder/Thunderwave)
>Nidoking (lv.47, Earthquake/Thrash/Horn Attack/Double Kick)
>Primeape (lv.46, Thrash/Strength/Low Kick/Karate Chop)
>Blastoise (lv.48, Surf/Bite/Ice Beam/Water Gun)
>Charizard (lv.46, Slash/Cut/Flamethrower/Fly)
>Alakazam (lv.51, Psychic/Confusion/Recovery/Psybeam)

Can anyone help me? Why am I having fun playing VC Blue?
I look forward to my breaks during work, just pop my 3DS out and play for a bit.

Also any weird things/shit you don't remember?
>Caterpie > Metapod @ 7, doesn't learn Harden
>poison is SE against bug

I haven't gotten too far but any other thing that Gen 1 had that changed later?
>>
>>25708990
Fire doesn't resist Ice.
Sleep takes a full turn to wake up.
Toxic and Leech Seed use the same counter.
Burn does 1/16, not 1/8.
Poison/Burn only take effect after the pokemon has moved.
Hyper Beam does not require a recharge turn if the opponent is knocked out.
Lick does not affect Psychic-types
Night Shade affects Normal-types
NEVER USE RAGE.
>>
>>25708990
Blizzard has 90 accuracy, Fire Blast has 30% burn rate, Thunder has 10% paralysis.
>>
>>25701681
Stop being a faggot and dupe rare candies and trainerfly to catch trade only pokes.

I got a complete dex, beat the E4 and trained up a complete set of all of the worthwhile pokemon in the RBY meta in around 14 hours of gameplay.
>>
>>25708990
If you haven't reached or just got to Cerulean, be sure to investigate the Mew glitch using an abra from the nugget bridge grass (avoiding the trainer there for glitching with later)
>>
The last area of victory road in yellow will get you a lot of geluded, but also plenty of graveler, machoke, golbat, and the occasional onix. All good for exp, and easy to grind for blastoise especially, but also venusaur minus golbat.
For pokemon who can't kill these easily, you can go to the grassy areas just before entering the cave segment of victory road. Nidorino/a, Mankey, and fearow are pretty easy for just about anything to kill. It'll take a while if your pokemon are that low, but even if you seem severely underleveled compared to the E4, you can still win because they lack EVs and common sense.
>>
I'm playing Yellow
I've already beaten Surge, and i forgot to get Mew first
Is there any way i can still get Mew, or do i have to start over/buy a different game?
>>
>>25709791
Start over. Only takes a little bit to reach cerulean, beat the bridge and catch an abra.

I you're really attached to your file you can do the old man glitch to catch the other mew but that one's tougher.
>>
>>25709802
Are you talking about the one with the Gambler in Route 8 and the Youngster in 24? Cause the Old Man Glitch is not available on Yellow

Also, i already beat that youngster
>>
>>25707638
It's like how Kingdom Hearts is vs KH2. In 2/later Gens, the enemies use better moves, in some cases higher level pokemon, are more aggressive, and sometimes use actual strategy. But you now have so many more options and are so much naturally stronger than you were in the old games that its significantly easier now.
>>
>>25709973
Google Mew Glitch map and you can find a map with all the trainers, what pokemon you can get from doing the glitch with them, and which ones can be used to innitiate the glitch. Worst case scenario, you might have to use a wild Ditto to get Mew. But the special stat needed for Mew isn't hard to get.
>>
Is there a way to edit or inject in this game?
>>
>>25701681
Get stoned and fondle VC's balls.
>>
>>25710158
Yeah, it's called arbitrary code execution using the 8F item. Have fun.
