The sprites in Yellow are polished (and some lose the dynamism of earlier RGB sprites -- like, holy shit, RB Scyther and Hitmonlee look incredible), but I don't think they're as boring or uniform as you're suggesting. We still have unique angles or poses -- look at Nidoking, Poliwrath, Kingler, etc. -- and we have these great sprites without monstrosities like RB's Kingler, Blastoise, Arcanine, Machop, Exeggcute, and so on.
If you want boring or uniform sprites, look at gen 5, the first time *every* sprite was standardized to fit a canned, battle-ready pose.
