As a massive gen 1 fan, I'd say there's no need to remake them again, especially with the VC releases.
Maybe 10 years from now, then sure, but they better barely be recognizable and have an extended directors cut version of the story where the Gym Leaders get off their butts and do stuff, and the Rockets make it a little more obvious why what they're doing is bad. ( I don't mean awakening some legendary with threats, I mean maybe put some sad pokemon in cages on conveyer belts in the game corner, get the cubone in on the plot, ect. )
What I WOULD be down for in the mean time is sequels that take place in an expanded Kanto region, with new towns, new gym leaders, and new antagonists, years and years after the events of HGSS.
Of course Gamefreak isn't man enough to make a game with old man Blue as the new professor.

I feel like if we were to revisit Kanto again it would be an anniversary time of game, and that being said it's too late for the 20th. I won't expect remakes until the 25th and 30th anniversaries, the 30th especially.

FRLG was really just Gen 1 on the Gen 3 engine, with a few extra islands. I'd much rather see the game reimagined as something better than a touched up version of the same thing.

Well, wouldn't the remakes not have the same issues? The slow battles and stuff would be gone since they wouldn't be the first pokemon games on DS and presumably not the first on whatever handheld they are made for. Likewise, HG/SS incorporated elements of Crystal despite being Gold/Silver remakes, so I'd assume they'd put elements of Platinum in the Diamond/Pearl remakes.

I could go on for days. They'd never do it but there's mad potential for a 20-years later story set in Kanto
I personally want a sinnoh remake to fix lots of the problems. An expanded spelunking system would be cool. Randomized visitable bases when connected to WiFi and more fossils to clean off.
I just liked gen 4 since it was the first I really played against other people with. I get that others don't and it's still fairly new but I think the vc releases and pkm moon compatibility with those releases basically guarantees the next remake (if any, entirely possible they skip a gen) won't be gen 1.

Gen I and Gen III take place at the same time. Hoenn would be no different at all.
Regardless, the only reason Johto is even a slight possibility is the way the geography works. I'd never ask for any other two regions to be combined because there's just no reason to think that even could happen.

They're connected not just geographically, but also in the minds of everyone who's played the series. The vast majority of people who would play a Kanto/Hoenn or whatever game would be disappointed and confused because Johto is missing, when it and Kanto even share a Pokemon League.

Why not just make 3 gen remakes at the same time? Kanto > Johto >Sinnoh. When you enter a new region your pokemon from the previous gen are taken from you, and you start fresh again. At the post game you unlock the national pokedex that enables you to use your pokes at all regions.
