Not really because people just would use Super/Close Combat/Drain Punch/Mach Punch anyway, also the only pokemons using protect are baton passers and they pretty much resist fighting.

I do wish Paralysis did just lower speed by 75%, none of that "fully paralyzed" bullshit.
Any sort of full-stop status should be able to be run out, like with Sleep, Freeze and recharging.
And maybe have Confusion make the target "knock itself back to its senses" after one instance of damage. But, that may make Outrage and its ilk too powerful.
