They have no leg to stand on either. Pokemon game releases have always followed the cycle of new main series game and remakes/sequels in some variation of that. The only exception is gen 3 with Ruby/Sapphire, FR/LG and then Emerald, but that was during a time when Pokemon was suffering, and they'd definitely make the game Pokemon Z if they were gonna go that route. It's a shut and closed case.
