I used to write fanfics all the time, but I never did Pokemon - I wasn't sure I could write captivating battle scenes, nor did I think I could balance any kind of main character.
That said, I did try once: I wanted to write something about the daily life of an Aqua grunt, and her frenemy relationship with a Magma grunt she knew from various run ins. I wanted to explore why someone might join an 'evil' team, and maybe the difference in the zeal of the admins vs. that of your everyday grunt.
I just never got it right every time I tried, so I stopped.

I guess it comes from the fact that, up until ORAS, both teams were pretty bumbling and ineffective up until the box legend awakening - and then especially after it.
Plus, there's a lot of potential when you have two teams - both of whom are more interested in bothering and one-upping one another than fucking with the protagonist, or even pursuing their goals.
