Welcome to /vp/'s Monotype Tournament thread!
Here we hold a Monotype tournament where you can compete for fun with Pokemon of your favourite type!
This tournament will be ran on OR/AS and will start on the 27th of March.
Need to practice, team-build, or get some breeding leftovers to help you prepare for the tournament? Post away! There's plenty of people around to help!

Registration forms are found in the ruleset pastebin (above) and must be filled out before the 27th of March. (One week earlier than originally planned)
Currently under discussion are changes to the ruleset, mostly pertaining to restricting more Pokemon including but not limited to: Mega Sableye, Mega Lopunny, Mega Slowbro, and Mega Metagross. Feel free to add any of your own suggestions for ruleset adjustments.

Just wanted to say that every person Ive played in this thread so far has used a goddamn FEAR lead (Which the best pokemon in the game, Rhyperior, and his Rock Black has had NO patience for. This tournament is going to be literally retarded like the best pokemon in the game, Stunfisk, if you all open with one. Be advised.

I want some advice. I already submitted my team but I know I can change it before next week, so I was wondering if I should replace one of my pokemon with a Smeargle. I was considering it at first but I just don't think Smeargle is good for 3v3 flats. I'm basically losing a slot for boosting tactics that might not even work. But Normal types can be finicky to use without setups.

Relying on setup can be pretty risky, I prefer to have a bunch of pokemon that can do plenty well on their own. If i do have something on my team with supporting moves, i make sure it also has an offensive presence and utility beyond setup, just to provide flexibility and backup strats.

Reposting question
How can my monotype bug team deal with talonflame?
I think Crustle is the best I can do, because it is the only bug type that can survive 3 attacks (besides shuckle).
I'm thinking sitrus berry so that maybe I might be able to survive 3 attacks? Or rocky helmet so that the recoil/helmet damage might bring it down below 50, so that stealth rocks can finish it off.

honestly, talonflame is a huge issue for bugs and fighting teams.
Crustle is a good option on a bug team in general due to sturdy and smashing, so it could help. And a bug team shouldn't go without a focus sasher as well. It sucks that you pretty much have to sack a mon against the bird but it's .. do-able.

Whatever your standard prep is for fast fire/flying types should work as normal for talonflame, it's priority isn't making it special really. Scarf staraptor for example will do the exact same thing to your team and require the same prep ( With the exception that pinsir can quick attack it I guess? But at that point things already going to net 1-2 KO's )

Yeah it sucks because unless the talonflame user is stupid, they'll just switch out against the obvious crustle and then you're forced to sack another pokemon until you've basically killed enough of their team that they don't have anyone else to safely switch into.
Do most talonflames run max attack/adamant/choice band? That's the kind of power I'm preparing for, but if there are jolly talonflames with sharp beak or life orb or something, it gives me some leeway to work with. Might even be able to use armaldo over crustle

I would normally have yanmega with speed boost, scizor with bullet punch, and mega pinsir to deal with those situations. Talonflame shits on all of those. It's why I've said before, I'd rather deal with a ho-oh, heatran, lugia, etc before I'd deal with a talonflame

it's worth mentioning that during the tournament, callum will try and pair up neutral types as best as he can, like rock vs electric and fire vs dark, instead of ones favouring one type over the other.
Hey, I was thinking of making an adjustment to my team and was wondering if Regigigas is banned, I'm thinking of freeing a slot for him but I noticed he isn't on the safe legendaries list despite him usually being classed as one.

Not sure, seems like one that could work. Honestly though, from facing your team before, I would highly recommend a flying type. You're likely to see fighting types during the tourney, and having a bird could help a lot. Lots to choose from.

You could use a faster priority move to defeat the gimmick, or set up a hazard to break the sash/sturdy. Also fear does exist within rock types, and its name is Aron.Also use Choice Banded Relicanth to counter Scizor, that's your real big threat.

Because Scizor and M-Scizor are a huge hard counter to Rock mono, a Banded set deals a huge amount of damage to it while taking neutral damage from its STAB and Relicanth's bulk make it able to 1v1 Scizor easily. It's not about sweeping with Grandpa fish, it's about being prepared for your biggest checks.

Recording a video on the Vs recorder is easy enough, but I don't have a 3ds capture device. What would I do to move it over to the computer to "report" it with the results?
For people that are worried times for battles, the round will get posted once the deadline comes up which will include all of the matchups.
Everyone will be given two games to complete in the first week. All details to contact your opponent to set up your battles will be included in the matchups, so after a few emails or posts in thread, you actually spend very little time waiting for your battle assuming you're organised.
