The 'take care of my brother' nonsense is dumb, but at least it doesn't really happen all that often. It'd be nice, also, if Clemont's inventions didn't always explode for no other reason than forced gag, since the series has shown he is really good at creating stuff.

They're the fucking same, this isn't a gen war, the whole anime is repetitive garbage shit for garbage people.
But if I HAVE to offer up a defense, at least it took Brock a little while to get to that point, Clemont got this gimmick right away because the anime had to meet it's quota for shitty predictable running gags.
