all of the cube things seem to match up with ingress portals so they are not pokemon go's xm equivalent.

actually the trainer is inside the san fransisco railway museum. the ivysaur appeared over the hotel next door.
the other cube icons are definitely ingress portals. the battle background is probably the default battle background for an urban area.
the battle background sort of resembles mission st when you stand in front of hotel vitale and look across the road. change the road into grass.
that squirtle to the right behind the portal icon must be the trainers because its not listed in "nearby"
this is just a catching demonstration, the bulbasaur does an attack animation right before the master ball is thrown. it was probably attacking the trainer's squirtle that is just off screen.
