I have a pokemon quesiton. I hope its related to this board.
I'm playing pokemon yellow on the 3ds. Can I trade with a ruby version game on a regular 1st gen DS? Or is that not allowed.
I'm just curious, I have the original ds with ruby in it somewhere in my cubicle and can't find out on my own til monday.

No, you cannot. Not directly, at least. The Pokemon from Yellow can only be sent to Sun & Moon versions.
The Pokemon from Ruby would have to be sent to a Generation IV game, then to a Gen V game from there, then uploaded to Pokemon Bank (where they can then be sent to Sun & Moon).

So I guess there is no way to trade my pikachu to evolve it to raichu and teach it surf unless I know someone else with RBY3DS? :/

That's correct. You'll either have to do that, or wait until later this year when Sun & Moon come out (though at that point, you won't be able to trade it back to Yellow).
