Typhlosion is a trash design Gamefreak did not put any effort into.
If you want a simple yet effective design, look at bug types. Heracross, Pinsir, Volcarona, and Scolipede all keep it simple to what they're based off of but still have enough fantasy aspect without it getting out of hand.
