Nah, basically they're not using the moon like they are the sun. They're using the energy, light, and heat from the sun, but the Moon is made of Moon Stones, and Moon Stones can induce evolution in certain pokemon, which also gives off energy.
So if it turns out that there's a hue legendary pokemon that needs a giant moon stone to evolve, and they wanna harness that energy, obviously they have to fly it to the moon!
