Who's your main so far? Why is sand tomb such a fun move?
Great game so far, my biggest complaint so far is each Pokemon has only 2 victory poses. So they get old fast.

It's incredible, flashy, and an awesome format for battling. The mainline game battle system is fun, but can you imagine if a seamless transition from field exploration into the pokken battle system were to take place? Itd be pretty sick. Oh and a suicune is my main man at the moment.
Good stuff:
-Roster isn't all that bad, still a treat.
-Garchomp is goddamn sexy
-phase shifts are interesting and actually add to the game in my opinion
Bad stuff:
-The background pokemon and people are a little weird looking, how were they in the arcade version?

Reminder that holding up in Duel phase as the Champ with let you take damage without hit stun, similar to countering.
I believe you take reduced damage but more chip damage versus other blocking methods, on the upside you can act out of it with whatever move you want.
Also holding A while shielding lets you charge Scary Face, good for retaliating against zoners in Duel phase.
this game's alright. Maybe I'll try it again after I get some rest and I'm not tired from work, but so far I'm a bit disappointed. The movement in field mode feels really clunky and off, and having a dedicated jump button in a sidescrolling fighter still trips me up.

You're basically making the game into a pokemon themed danmaku.
Figure out a panic button that can reliable save you when the enemy gets too close.
Don't try to run up and use your Burst, save it for when you need some space. Also, try to use it early in the round, to take advantage of the stat drops it causes.
Oh, and the fully charged Forward+Y, the beam? It lasts long enough that even if your opponent tries to use a counter, they'll still get hit. So spam it.

If you want to mix it up close range, focus on negative status. Use supports, Smog (forward+A), and your Burst attack to cause them, and then use Hex to deal damage.

So yeah, how do I even counter the beam as Braixen. A non-charged beam is nearly instantaneous (I can barely react to it, especially with the will-o-wisp projectiles chasing me as well), while the beam in general goes across the entire arena, and I can't even side step it without dodging (like I can with most others).
Is my only solution as Braixen to block or jump over it?

Speaking as a Chandelure main, strafe left and right a lot and close in. The beam doesn't have great tracking, so it's aggravating when the opponent keeps strafing wildly. Especially if you have any attacks that move you around; I know Libre has a few that seem to close the gap instantly.
Alternatively, stay in the air. This is less reliable because Chandelure has some good anti-air moves, but it beats a beam spammer handily.
Honestly though, I've only ever seen a handful of Braixen, and never had any trouble with them. Any Braixen mains here want to chime in?

Difficulty of use will only come into play in the most extreme cases. What is a bigger factor is whether or not that difficulty can pay off in some regard.
It's way too early to tell what character will be where tier wise, even remotely, and every character is at least decently balanced, but if I were to guess his ability to set traps will make him good. There are certain archetypes that fightng games tend to reward (puppet characters, faster characters, counter based grapplers, zoners), and trap setters are one of those.

I'm digging chandelure and garchomp so far. Chandelure feels a lot like Peacock from Skullgirls, so it's an easy change for me. Garchomp just feels so good to punish opponents with, I love his counter.
I play Pokken and smash brothers, that's both fighting games. Wish there was a third because I'd play that too

Sometimes after a fight my B button will randomly stop working in menus. It doesn't matter what controller I'm using, the pad and the pro both do it. I've never had this happen in any other game.
Every other button works fine and I can even enter another battle where B will still jump or hit Home and use the B button in the WiiU menu, but it doesn't do anything in the game menu. I can't exit the game mode, I have to turn the WiiU off if I want to do something else.

Future sight forces them either away or in, and the calm mind explosion seems to only really get beaten by grabs, which is a problem since it hits from pretty far away compared to most counter attacks
There's probably bad problems with this strategy, but it kinda works

Level ~50 D4 chomp here.
From what I've seen so far, the main thing you want to do with chomp is to put him into duel phase, because that's where you get access to his central mechanic, crit sniping.
Chomp has a special gimmick to him in that if you land crits with his U/D/B A attacks, you get a double attack as opposed to a standard move. Stone edge becomes two waves, sand tomb becomes two twisters, so on. Crit dragon rush is arguably the best because after factoring crit bonus as well as the second hit, you're usually doing around 200 damage with a single button press. It does throw them back into field phase though which I guess is a fair tradeoff.
A little thing about mega chomp; I was a little confused why it takes so long to charge since it didn't seem to drastically changr his power like with gengar, but after some messing around I found that during burst, his specials actually ALL double hit regardless of crit, which is pretty rad since crit stone edge and sand tomb have basic followups and dragon rush is just stupid strong

Its 3+1 (in Burst). Some of them appear very rarely though, which is why you might have gotten the impression that there are only 2.
This nigga is just too good, he hits hard and it feels so nice. Any particular strats that you guys use with him? Which support pokemon do you usually run with him? I've been finding espeon/umbreon to generally be fairly useful with him.

I've been practicing with all 5 all day in training. I don't have really strong grip on this game at all yet I keep switching around because I can't choose one.
Chandelure moves weirdly to me so I'm probably gonna drop it even though its my favorite pokemon
Braixen feels clunky for some reason, I'm trying to grasp spacing with traps and using Light Screen as a spacer. I'm fuck all confused with her crumpling little dash step since nothing connects after that hit.
Lucha feels good to me, but I don't quite get field with it, I also hate the fuck out of its name. I don't get some of the moves in duel either like the double team and how its used for.
Blazikens combos from the tutorial didn't work in training, so my main issue with it is that I have no idea what to do other than poke with the standard Y combo
I'm not asking for characters with the higher win rates. I'm just an indecisive fuck, these are the most comfortable characters I've played. I just don't know what to play and was hoping to get some input from people who have chosen from them.

So, I'm watching people are are actually decent at fighting games play Pokken (had to wait until the game came out, since Nintendo gave early copies exclusively to button-mashing shitters)
Normally you need to wait 3-5 months for the mets to evolve, but... This game looks like fucking shit competitively.
The damage scaling is worse than MvC. You start doing 1 damage point once your combo reaches 5 hits
You have blow-out states to prevent infinite combos (instead of balancing frame data and stun/fall speed) but a blowout ALSO means a stance change. Going from 2D to 3D and back to 2D. It's really jarring, and puts the game back in neutral was too constantly.
And trying to use supers to crash in before a blowout doesn't work. If you dare try and combo into a super, your super fails and your opponent blows out anyway.
It's fucking weird. I was expecting a fighting game. Not... Whatever this mess is.
