I thought having a living dex would've been harder. But I actually quite enjoyed working on it as a passtime.
Once I finished, I had the urge to complete my Ditto collection (one of every nature) so I felt no satsifaction. Then when I had completed my Ditto collection, I had the urge to complete my Vivillon collection (which I still haven't managed to finish yet). Even if I finish that, I'll probably end up starting an Unown collection. It never ends.

I did a living dex in a couple weeks back during gen 5 and then cleaned up the gen 6 dex pretty quick afterwards.
Super satisfying, and I can get the shiny charm on any game now just by transferring every Pokemon off of Bank onto the new game.
So what made you want to complete your pokedex?
Back in gen 1 and 2. I never really cared about dex completion. Only battling with friends.
Later in gen 3. A friend of mine started trying to complete his National Dex in Ruby, So I thought about doing the same. Then when firered/leafgreen came around. I went for the national. Never completed it, only got to like 355. I did have both Ho-Oh and Lugia from the gamecube games.
Wasn't until Diamond that I actually completed the Pokedex.
