So 3ds is basically a console where you can play all generations at the moment
>1st gen on VC (Red/Blue/Yellow, Green in Japan)
>2nd gen remakes (HeartGold/SoulSilver)
>3rd gen remakes (OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire)
>4th gen (Diamond/Pearl/Platinum)
>5th gen (Black/White/Black 2/White 2)
>6th gen (X/Y)
>7th gen soon (Sun/Moon)

People still hate on 3ds, some sold theirs because they though next Pokemon gen is for NX :^)

You can visit all regions, but you've been able to do so since 2014.

And I guess GBC and GBA emulation allow you to play Gen 2 and 3 if you hacked your 3DS.
