Have you guys ever bought a fake?
>>
>>25623310
No I always get my games on the day.
>>
I'm not a poorfag who buys shit secondhand
>>
>>25623310

https://chieftain20.wordpress.com/2014/05/17/complete-guide-to-authentic-gba-pokemon-games/

I found this guide to be very helpful when buying used Gen III games
>>
>>25623310
>get firered cartridge
>train and create a bond with my bros
>find two shinies and spend almost 300 hours on it
>diamond and pearl come out
>discover I can transfer my bros from firered
>cartiridge cannot be read
>tfw I found out it's a fake

I'm still salty to this day. Threw the game straight into the trash and bought a real one.
>>
>>25623360

That burns, but for future reference the fakes can't transfer to Gen IV, but they can trade with other Gen III's just fine, for the ones I've used at least.
>>
Yes, my original Ruby version that I bought from eBay was a fake. It worked perfectly fine and played just like it was supposed to but the cartridge was black with a red logo sticker instead of entirely red.

Back when Pokemon had its 10th year anniversary my country's Club Nintendo magazine would let you get those 10 pokemon that won the popularity poll if you just mailed you cartridge to their offices, which I did. After a few days I got a call from them telling me that my cartridge was a bootleg and that they would send me back a legit copy free of charge with the 10ANNIV pokemon loaded onto it.

Considering how shit Club Nintendo over here usually is that was pretty based of them. Would have appreciated it more if they didn't name the player character ASH though.
>>
>>25623380

That's pretty dope. You could just trade them over to a different cart temporarily, make a new save file, then trade them back I guess.
>>
>>25623391
I only had one GBA and didn't have any friends with Pokemon, and with Gen IV on the horizon I just ended up transferring them all to my Diamond copy.
>>
>>25623310
Yup, got a copy of Ruby that turned out to be fake. I returned it, and asked for my money back. Thankfully, sellers on trademe.co.nz are terrified of bad feedback, so I got the money back quite quickly.
After that, when buying the rest of the G3 games, I only bought them via pick-up, and asked to test the game before I handed over the cash.
>>
>>25623310
got fakes on ebay one day. I was mad.
I ended up selling them to a local hobby game shop in town. I didn't feel bad 1 bit because several months earlier a friend of mine *well not so much a friend anymore* slowly stole game out of my collection over the course of a couple weeks and ended up selling them to that shop and when I reported it they didn't do a god damn thing about it. I fucking hate small ma and pop towns.
As far as Im concerned they still owe me at least $250 because jewbay prices.
>>
>>25623496

Damn what games did they take?
>>
>>25623501
lets see if I can remember correctly...
Smash Bros 64
Harvest Moon64
Pokemon Red
Yellow
Gold
Crystal(all of them had new replaced batteries and Crystal had my original pokemon on it from when I was fucking 7 or 8 years old from my original red version)
Final Fantasy 2 SNES
Zelda LTTP
and a few more games that I can't remember off the top of my head. I think a couple mario party games and a few other SNES games.
>>
>>25623522
It was a decent hit to my small collection I made over the course of my life being a poor kid. Made me sink more into emulation than ever before. You can't take my roms... but I can't hold them either... I could easily replace them now, but the damage is done.

Yeah i unknowingly bought fake Emerald and Fire Red off ebay a few years back. They worked fine and it didn't really bother me much since i could still trade and battle my m8.

Except Fire Red. It was The Fire Red cartridge with Fire Red sticker but when you actually booted it up it was loaded with fucking Leaf Green.

Fucking Bootlegging chinks, i'm still upset from that
>>
>>25623560
>spoiler
That's funny. I can see how that could piss anyone off.
>>
>>25623569
Yeah it hurt. I can't remember what the exclusives for it were, but i buy my game versions based solely on the exclusives available. So it was a punch in the gut at the time.

I've got a fun story for you, OP.
>Be me
>Be around 15 when this happened
>Bought Fire Red from a merchant online using PayPal
>Open up package
>Instantly know it's a fake, since I've bought them before
>This was the third time I tried to buy a legit cart only to wind up with a fake one
>Immediately request a refund
>They don't respond back
>Contact PayPal and request a refund, thinking it would be easy
>They tell me I need to go to the police, show them the cartridge and get them to confirm it was fake
>mfw
>Go to station
>Talk with a policeman for a few minutes and explain to him my situation
>He tells me he'll write a letter which I can send to PayPal confirming it's fake but he'll need to keep the cart and destroy it since it's counterfeit
>I accept and get the letter
>Scan the letter and upload the evidence to PayPal
>A few days pass
>Still nothing
>Contact PayPal again
>Guy on the line tells me it hasn't gone through because they need "proof of identity"
>youshittingme.jpg
>Explain to him I'm 15 and don't trust uploading my passport details online
>"OK sir, I'll sort this out for you"
>A few more days later
>I finally get a fucking refund
>But that guy immediately placed a block on my account so I could never use it unless I provided "proof of identity"
And that's why I'll never use PayPal to buy anything again.

Yes

This is my favourite of the bootlegs. I had a real looking Leaf Green too but the case was translucent and that was it, it was pretty boring.

This one though, I think they just used a shittily translated Japanese game since all of the Pokemon have names no longer than 5 characters and the english text on them is all stretched and weird.

Sadly I can't complete it, I'll show you why...

When I use the Poke Flute on Snorlaxthis happens but the battle never starts. It doesn't freeze, the battle just never starts.

I'm going to try to extract the save file and see if there is an editor that can set the Snorlaxes to defeated so they don't blok my path anymore.

I'd really love to play more of it because the stupid text is pretty funny sometimes.

Also my first ever level 100 Pokemon was a CHarizard from this game which I now have in ORAS. It looks so strange because of the wierdly stretched out CHARM as it's name.
>>
>>25623310
I'm going to check my FireRed cartridge later. Is the one on top or bottom of OP pic the real deal just for quick reference?
>>

Here.

http://gamebrew.org/wiki/GBA_Backup_Tool

Upload the ROM, too
>>
>>25624247
I remember what the problem was now. My DS reads the cartridge but when I open the game it's just a white screen.

I'll keep trying for a bit, it's dodgy even on my SP but I think this is the reason I never extraced the rom before.
>>
I have bootleg Emerald, only problem now is that berries dont grow (idk why)

It doesn't have a battery, "Clock based events will no longer occur".

Berries are clock based events.

Is there another way to backup saves/roms? I have a GBA flashcart if that would help.

>>25624336
Do you have a DS flashcart like an R4? Download the .nds file from >>25624247 and run it on the flashcart with the GBA cartridge in. Then press A to load it and browse the menu with R and L to "Generate GBA File" or some shit.
You'd do the same, "Backup .sav file", if it hadn't been deleted.
Then just put your SD into your computer and upload the Rom so we can play it.

I can get the Rom from pic related if you guys want me to.

I dont have screwdriver for opening carts.
>>
>>25624375
Well I tried just playing the GBA game in the DS and it wouldn't load, just a white screen.

I'll try this anyway but I'd imagine if the DS can't ply the game that the ROM it extracts won't work.
>>
>>25624375
Also i have a question. Using this rom for nds you can apply IPS patch to GBA game?
>>

X seems to do nothing while A just closes the message and does nothing.

the game title is "YJENCRYPTED ____ 00"

You could probably walk into a grocery store and walk out with a cheapo mSD. Literally go to any big store and buy the least expensive one they have.
>>
>>25624566

>>
>>25624591
Probably. Even then, you'll have to put all the firmware files and such from the old card into the new one. Hope you made a backup, or that you can at least still read and copy from the old one. Or that you can find the firmware somewhere if it was an obscure knockoff R4.
>>
>>25624602
I've got a corrupt backup. Lel.

I bought Gold or Crystal, I don't remember I think it was Gold from some second-hand Chinese store next to a Chuck E' Cheese. I was a little kid who wasn't aware that the cartridges came in bright colors and what pissed me off was that the games wouldn't Save so it's been ages and I lost it. My friend sent me his Crystal, but the battery seems fucked so I need to get that replaced

Otherwise no, I've been pretty mindful about my games. I even got an Emerald from a game store that had a load of hacked Pokemon on Naval Island, but I reset it because I honestly didn't care. I was close to finishing the National Dex at that point in Black 2. Never did finish it, X and Y came too early

>Fake Pokemon cards

I remember back in the late 90's/early 2000's there was an epidemic of these things where I lived because every convenience store was selling them and the were cheaper that real packs (about 75 cents a pack). I think they were labeled Q-Boy or something like that and everyone had them.
>>
>>25624182
>>25624195

>>
Shit I also found my copy of ShinyGold.
>>
>>25625067
I would if I could anon, sadly the only way I know how is with my DS Lite and an R4 but the DS doesn't read it somehow.
>>
>>25625067
>>25625084
By the way, how do people put romhacks in these things?
>>
When I was a kid, I found a game called "Pokémon Chaos Black" on eBay and it blew my mind that there was a Pokémon game I never even heard of before so I instantly bought it.

It was a Fire Red hack with a bunch of fakemon and you couldnt even progress past Mt Moon because there was a random pool of water you needed to surf through in order to progress, bummed me out
>>
>>25625064

I always found them at swap meets and small convenience stores.
>>
>>25625079

Bootleggers have gotten wiser these days and decided not to counterfeit cards as much, now the tactic is weighing card packs and picking out the rare cards, replacing the missing packs with another pack, and repackaging everything.
