I think he's most liked grass starter, even if Blaziken and Swampert beat him in his own gen. (Personailly I prefer Torterra) Maybe we'll see him in Smash, then we'll have a Fire starter, Water starter, and a Grass starter.

As a Sceptile fan, eh. He's fairly popular, the second most popular Hoenn starter behind Blaziken. But I don't think he's ever going to reach Charizard, Lucario, Mewtwo levels of popularity. Even Greninja has the advantage of being playable in Smash which is HUGE. Sceptile is still a popular fan favorite though, having a Mega and having had a major role in the anime as one of Ash's strongest Pokémon. It seems like GameFreak couldn't decide whether they wanted Sceptile to be a physical attacker or a special attacker. I'm hoping he gets some buffs in Sun and Moon. He has a lot of potential. Just look at Serperior. That thing has garbage attacking stats, yet it's a top threat in OU simply due to Contrary. Mega Sceptile deserved a better ability.

I feel bad about saying this, but in all honestly, Sceptile didn't become my favorite Pokémon until I saw its Mega Evolution. It's not that I disliked Sceptile. I was just a bit indifferent towards it because it was another pure Grass type which didn't seem special. But once I saw that Mega with the cool Grass/Dragon typing, I immediately gained interest in Sceptile, and it's been my favorite Pokémon since then. You always see people on /vp/ bitching about Mega Evolutions and how it "ruined" the series, but Mega Evolution is wonderful in that it breathes new life into old Pokémon and allows them to gain new fans, like me.

I like Snivy line more, but I'm glad grass is getting some attention. Grass types and their fans have been getting the shit end of the stick since the very start because using them to their full potential means more than just mashing your strongest attack move.
