While I don't mind cartridges, my mother got rid of all my old carts and Legos when I moved. I have a couple carts that I picked up at flea markets, but I'm not a stickler for hard copies.

Ironically you posted the only games which need an emulator since they can't get fucked from dead batteries
>>
>>25601116
The only thing I still have is my gold and yellow. Crystal was stolen a long with teal gbc. I've got the rest of this recently off Craigslist pretty decent only 15-20 a pop, the SP I bought from family who didn't use anymore.
>>
>>25601129
My only question is why? You can only feasibly use four advance cartridges at once, for berry blender (and why would you), and two max for trading or battling. The amount of redundancy is baffling.
>>
>>25601146
As you said it wont get fucked with dead batteries. Its just dead batteries, you open and replace them and they are good as new
>>
>>25601146
What do you mean? I have an emerald sitting at home I haven't fixed yet, but what's the difference between these and the rest for replacing batteries (not including shit tier d&p)

I have yellow and crystal on a Green gbc
I got the gbc as a gift after I already had a 3ds and the other games from a friend that found out my parents didn't let me have one as a kid and I only ever watched other people play
It was a silly gift but I admit it was much more fun than playing in an emulator.
Finished yellow, currently on my second crystal run

There is no difference

>>

I don't have a good reason really. I got one of each for myself when the games came out, plus I got my brother's stuff when he stopped liking the games, then my cousin's, then my nephew's, and eventually it just became a thing I collected. I did but a few, but most were presents. I have a bud who replaces the batteries for me.

Who still has their first game cartridge?

Yellow was my first game and weird to think that I've had it for 17 years. Batteries' deader than dead so I've been meaning to replace it but haven't gotten around to it yet. Still has some sharpie marker markings from where I wrote my name on it and decided to get rid of it and couldn't all the way.

>>
>>25601297
Well I guess I misinterpreted what you meant. I do think SP is the best way to play, not only because the unit itself improves on a lot of the older gbc but is also more compact for travel. Including this with the ability to play GBA titles makes it a better contender for a true Gameboy system. Yes the GBA can play GBA games but so can the Gameboy micro.

Sadly my GBC was given to charity when I was little and got a GBA. It was the Pikachu edition where the power light is his cheek, which is apparently now one of the most expencive GBC's (I imagine there are rarer ones given only to certain people or something, but I think it's the rarest one you could just buy in a shop)

I'm in the process of recollecting all of the games right now, because I've sold quite a few of them over the years and lost others. The worst thing is that most of the games still run you ~$30 and since I have like 10 games left to get this is going to get quite expensive

a "ROM" file is literally a rip of the data stored in a game cartridge's actual ROM

I have the same problem, but I think it's because emulating on PC is a much cruder setup than booting up the original console (especially if it's handheld). If I can get the roms on a flash cart or virtual console I don't have the same issue

I did do my first playthrough of Black on a laptop with the arrow keys, weirdly enough

I'm moving back home for the summer and am taking stuff before my exams in a months time, its usually in a cabinet by the TV.
>>
>>25602949
that's exactly what you said
a cart is a physical collectible object
so it has a value, you cannot multiply it and you cannot get one for free - even if someone gives it to you it has the value of the materials and the handwork that has been made to create that copy. It can become rare due to less existing as it ages, be it cartridges, vynils, bottlecaps, you name it

a rom is virtually nonexistent or in this case virtually only existent , can be multiplied indefinitely and you can get for free literally anywhere

>>
>>25603208
>>25603272
Ah, that explains it.

I'm in Canada, but the markets here have reacted similarly to the US. Shit dried up a while ago, and I've seen some people trying to sell loose carts, like a beat up Blue, for upwards of $50.

Retro games in general have been dealing with a huge spike for years now, but across the board they're getting harder to find, and shady reproductions are becoming more common. Pokemon is the prime example of a game series that's often bootleged.
>>
>>25601104
>"muh authenticity!"

The SP, GBA, or GBC aren't original either, cockjockey. The "real way to play pokemon" is on the original fat Gameboy. Stop being such a hipster douchebag.
>>
Born 1997 and my first game was Silver when I was 7. I traded my friend a Mrs. Fields Cookie for his game.

I never actually got to play it until I got my GBA SP with Pokemon Emerald when I turned 8. So Silver and Emerald were both the first Pokemon games I played.
I lived with the franchise through the merchandise and TV show in the meantime.

That said, I later got FireRed, and never actually played the original R/B/Y games, and really don't care to. I hardly like Kanto as it is anyways.
