Zygarde forms situation is similar to Lucario's situation.
-Lucario was revealed way long before DP release, its got its own movie and it appeared in TCG already in 2005
-Zygarde formes were revealed a year before Sun and Moon, Zygarde got its entire anime season (and will appear in movie - at least dog is confirmed) and just now they made it nto the TCG.
We all though Zygarde forms will be gen 6 but in fact they were the first gen 7 forms. We also had that in the past: Kanto was continued in gen 2, Regis got their master, Regigigas in gen 4, Mewtwo got forms in gen 6, same with Hoenn legends.
Zygarde reveal was just a way to finish gen 6 in the anime and create a buld up for gen 7 games. A bridge tying gen 6 and 7 together. What role will it play in Sun and Moon?

Isn't Zygarde supposed to be a protector of ecosystems or something? If so it'd actually make a lot of sense for it to be relevant in a Hawaii-based region, Hawaii is very big on conservation because they have a lot of problems with invasive species and other things.
