I think sometimes the RNG just goes balls to the wall with crits both for and against the player.

Otherwise you would end up with a shitton of Mons and it would make too easy anyway. But you can always use repels to get to the second floor without encountering anything on the first floor...

All five members of my team got BTFO by Falkner's Pidgeotto: was banking on my Cyndaquill's smokescreen neutralizing him as a threat, plus Supersonics from my Ledyba and Zubat, but forgot about his Keen Eye and his Gust leveled my party after Sand-Attack removed my ability to hit him.

I'm doing a pikachulocke in 3DS Yellow. It's been hilarious how every time I think Pika Libre is way overleveled it is nearly one-shot by a crit or crippled with status.
Lost Stud the charmander to Surge because I thought that level 36 pikachu was a match for level 28 raichu. Turns out mega punch did 60% of Pika's health and I had to switch to use a potion. Rock Tunnel was a huge nightmare with only Slam and Quick Attack. I caught Slapchop the machop to low kick my way through but he fell to a geodude selfdestruct.
By Celadon I've got what I think will be its final moveset: Thunderbolt, Quick Attack, Submission, Double Team
Pika got paralyzed in the celadon gym by a bellsprout and had the closest call with a crit god weepinbell imaginable. Went to the fighting dojo. Primeape got a critical hit fury swipes that hit 5 times.
Having skirted doom over and over, Pika Libre is now level 48 with 4 badges and 5 gyms under its belt. It no longer needs to rely on double team to chip the hp from onix, it just suplexed Giovanni's along with his rhyhorn. Probably going to avoid koga as long as possible.

What's the easiest/most forgiving games from Gens IV and V to do? I stopped playing Pokemon around Ruby and Sapphire, and didn't pick it up again until XY. I haven't really played any Pokemon games since a little after XY came out, but around that time I did do a bunch of RSE and FRLG nuzlockes and had a lot of fun.
I want to do some more nuzlockes, but I'd be going into Gens IV and V without having played them before. Seems like that will make them even more difficult, especially since there are a lot of Pokemon I'm not familiar with.
Although I guess I could always get out my copy of X orpirateORAS and do those a few times first, get back into the swing of Pokemon, since I hear those two are really easy in general.

Platinum is widely considered the most difficult game in the series even in regular gameplay. It's consistently challenging and Cynthia is by far the most brutal Champion in the series.
HeartGold/SoulSilver is arguably the easiest pre-Gen VI game in the series. However, the low level curve makes it very difficult to grind to replace team members in a Nuzlocke, and having to defeat both Team Rocket and sixteen Gym Leaders also makes it a very long campaign which means there's plenty of opportunity for you to get screwed by RNG or just getting lazy. With Red's level 80+ team waiting for you and the only source of good grinding being re-challenging Gym Leaders and the Elite Four, the game becomes much more dangerous towards the end.
Of course there's also Diamond and Pearl, but I can't in good conscience ever recommend them when Platinum exists.

BW is harder than its sequel. There's not many areas to catch early game, and throughout the game your selection of Pokémon is limited to Gen V Pokémon. Gym Leaders are much harder earlier, and the Elite Four and Final Bossesare one of the more challenging in the series.
BW2 is still fairly challenging, but its leaders and bosses are more forgiving and there's much more variety in Pokémon available.
All in all you've pretty much hit 4/5 of the more challenging games in the series, none of them are exactly easy.
Still, I would recommend HG/SS -> Plat -> BW -> BW2

Platinum is quite hard. B/W and B2/W2 are slightly easier but I wouldn't call them easy. I think you'd better go with HGSS if you've already played Gen2 at least some of it would be familiar. The level curve is shitty after the fourth gym but the early game is honestly very easy.
You're more or les guaranteed to fail on your first try though. But that doesn't make it any less fun

XY is incredibly easy, if you want it to be. EXP Share, Amie bonuses, and Super Training can all be taken advantage of to get optimal overleveled super-Mons with just a little effort.
If you take away all those things, it's still pretty easy. But, in part because it's so easy, the game can still catch you off guard when it throws something actually dangerous at you, like a Hawlucha, or a Throh/Sawk with Counter, or a Dragon Rage Axew before the 2nd Gym. Still, assuming you have a decent team comp and aren't deliberately keeping yourself underleveled you're not really going to be in danger between the 2nd Gym and Victory Road.
ORAS is at about as easy as XY, maybe a little more difficult since there's less catching variety and Groudon/Kyogre are much more threatening than Xerneas/Yveltal. Still, anyone who's played Ruby/Sapphire knows what to expect.
What do you guys do with your remaining pokemon at the end of a nuzlocke run: Save them, trade them away, release/erase them?

The Theiflocke
1.If a Pokémon faints it is considered dead and must be released or boxed
2.You can attempt to catch 2 pokemon per route, 1. The first wild pokemon you encounter 2. The last pokemon of any trainer you want the FIRST(Not allowed during rematches like Vs Seeker or phone calls) time you fight them on a route. Example: Youngster Timmy has 2 pokemon 1 Ratatta and 1 mankey. If you knock out his ratatta you can catch the mankey but if he switches ratatta for mankey and you knock it out you can either catch the rattata or battle another trainer. This is important because the cheat that allows you to capture pokemon ends the battle as soon as its captured. That's about it, add any extra rules you want.

Well, the 12 year old laptop I was using to emulate GBA games including this Emerald run has finally kicked the bucket for good.
Instead of restarting Emerald on my PC I'm just going to start over with ORAS instead, or an XY run. At least until I stop being lazy and hack my 3DS so I can play GBA games.
I did not remember gen 3 having such bad pokemon variety, and ORAS cut it even more by denying people access to new mauville, the non-zubatude part of granite cave, etc. Oh, and the move tutor is postgame too! And all the interesting items like leftovers!
Right now I'm going to do the magma base and the eighth gym, my team is mega Sceptile with leaf blade/dual chop, Tentacruel with toxic spikes/poison jab/surf, Azumarill with Play Rough/Aqua Tail, Camerupt with Plume/EP/Yawn who I'm afraid will die to some water attack or something because he's so slow and difficult to switch in, and Skarmory with steel wing/fly/spikes/roar, no offensive presence at ALL.
And I'm training a pig to maybe set up screens and confuse ray.
No electric attacks. No ice attacks. All underwater catches will be water, obv. I don't know what the fuck to do.
My other options include two Glooms who are backup for losing Sceptile, Meditite without physical psychic moves (lol tutor postgame), duskull with no offensive presence or leftover access, Swablu, Koffing, Magikarp and the rest is just garbage like skitty and psyduck.
Just tried my first nuzlocke after all these years of playing normally. I thought people overreacted about them and that it would be smooth sailing. I just lost over half my goddamn team in a double battle against machoke and mr. mime. What the fuck! I have no goddamn idea how I'm going to beat Korrina now.
