If you are wondering why they made a pokemon based off of a moai, then I'm as curious as you.
But as a moai pokemon, it's pretty great. I liked the magnet aspects they added as well

It's a 4th generation of Pokémon.
Cause odd ball looking pokemon really make the game great.
Not everything can fall into bad ass, beautiful or cute category. Weird and goofy designs can be very enjoyable if you keep an open mind about things.

As someone who tends to like "edgy-mons" and dragons and shit, and who does not like Probopass, I agree with this.
Diversity is Pokemon's greatest strength. No one will like the entire dex. Conversely, I find it hard to believe anyone wouldnt be able to like at least a hand-full of pokemon. Having goofy, odd, bizarre and object like pokemon is not only beneficial, but necessary to Pokemon's design philosophy.
