Am I being retarded or something? I've been headbutting trees in Azalea for hours to get a Heracross but it's not fucking coming. (also this is in Crystal).
It takes a fuck load of time to get Heracross. In many cases I would just give up and get Pinsir, but Heracross is better.
Don't headbutt trees in Azalea, try it in route 33 instead.
This worked for me in Heart Gold.
Try the tree on the bottom far right of union Cave. After trying trees for hours I found two Heracross right away on that one.

Headbutt some of the trees east of Azalea where all the trainers are(close to the cave). That's where I got mine.
I always find my Heracross near the last acorn trees.
it's like feebas, you have to find certain trees to even begin finding one.
Recently played through crystal, and it took me a good hour (while i was speeding the game up) to find one
