Long story short, I haven't played a traditional Pokemon game in a long time and I'm going get a Nintendo 2DS and start with Leaf Green and go on from there.
My question is the Pokemon Bank that holds certain ones and can be transferred to other games?
My question is, since Sun and Moon are coming out, is it possible to start with Leaf Green, and continuously transferring my Pokemon to the other versions digitally for Sun/Moon?
Follow up question, is there a way to do the trade evolutions now without being around someone?

You need a different device to play leafgreen. Get a DS Lite and a 2DS.
Pokemon Bank only works with taking gen VI mons between games and transferring between V and VI. There are other ways for everything else though.
You need to trade with another game of the same gen for trade evos. No exceptions.

Well DS Lite's and the original DS which can play GBA and regular DS games should be super cheap these days.
Plus in order to transfer from IV to V you're going to need to devices that can play DS games. (Because one acts as a "host" and the other as a "guest" for the transfer software between the two games.

So get a DS lite-Play Leaf Grean -Transfer to the next game (Soul Silver?)-then work my way up like that until I have access to the Pokemon Bank?

You can xfer from rby, to poke bank once sun/moon is released.
Xy/oras can xfer back and forth through pokebank.
I believe gen V can be transferred to pokebank through some other way.

I appreciate the feedback, it's been a long time since I played Pokemon. I never finished Saphire and my Diamond was stolen with my GBA so I kinda gave up on it for a good while.

Yeah since old DS's have both a GBA and DS slot the 4th generation games like SoulSilver have a feature that can transfer from RSE/FRLG (3) to DPPt/HGSS (4).
Then since both BW/BW2 and DPPt/HGSS are DS Games they needed two DS's to transfer from one to the other.

Actually I don't think you can use poke transporter from gen 4 to gen 6.
You can xfer from gen 5 to gen 6 with pokebank.
Would need to trade from gen 4 to gen 5

No someone trades you eggs that they have leftover and you give them typically a pidgey or magicarp.
Sometimes you get cool stuff like feebas or eevee.
Other times you get sad things like chinglingand furfrou

Starting with gen 3 you'll only need a DS (original or lite) and a 3DS. But if you want to trade in Gen 3 you'll need two GBAs/SPs.

For trading if you offer the pokémon holding the trade item (if needed) to be traded for it's own evolved form (or another trade only 'mon) that's the easiest way. (Gen 6 only obviously)

Not much has changed from gen 4 as far as I can remember. Only changes are improvements to the ease of breeding and checking ivs.
