I just watched the first episode of the XY anime after not watching the anime since johto
And my question is has the anime always been this (for the lack of a better word) childish or is it just my nostalgia. I felt like I was watching an episode of teletubbies or something.

It has always been childish, but the newer episodes feel a lot more...I don't know, sanitized? Like there was a lot of weird shit in the original series that I feel newer episodes would never do now, like the Gastly summoning a mongoose or the giant Pokemon episode where the Pokemon were actually subtitled. The characters are a lot more bland now too, everyone is too friendly about anything and Ash NEVER gets angry or mad about anything unless it's related to team rocket.

The early anime was better but it was never a masterpiece. Much of the humor and more charming aspects are gone now.

It's nowhere near as charming as it was in Kanto and Johto. There was a lot of heart in it back then. But, now, Ash is a far more competent trainer. Basically the reasons to watch the show now is for battles and pokemon being cute.

Takeshi Shudo (The original head writer of the anime) originally wanted the anime to be a bit more fleshed out, and had ideas and the like for various characters. However, originally the series was only supposed to last about 80 episodes, and they never expected it to go beyond that. He even wrote various novelizations detailing various aspects of the characters.
Such as the fact that Ash was 10 years, 10 months, and 10 days old when he started his Pokemon journey, or that he was on his school's baseball team, hence why he always tossed his Pokeballs like he did.
Takeshi stepped down from writing episodes near the end of the Johto saga.

Unfortunately, no one here will think so, since if it's not in the main series, it doesn't exist according to them, or at least that is what they will lead you to believe, even though the franchise THEMSELVES don't think that at all. Apparently, Masuda doesn't think that, either, since he tends to think more on the lines of the anime in that regard.
Anyway, it is well known that the reason Shudo took more of a back seat was because he wasn't allowed to use his ideas, and he even had to watch as the anime grew further and further away from his vision. Team Rocket, though, were explicitly kept in because they were also created by him. When he died, that is when BW happened. Scary, isn't it?

It's because the XY series is shit. The anime thread thinks otherwise because they're full of shipfaggotry, but Serena had literally no chsracter besides, "I like Ash," for the first 40 episodes. Then when she got a goal it was just a poor man's contest without the battles. Tripokalon episodes are also bkabd abd predictable, with literally every single one following one of two patterns. Either Serena wins or one of her shitmons trips. That's it. Every single fucking Tripokalon is that.
And then you have the rivals who are all garbage wuth the sole exception of Millefeui, who doesn't do enough to ve good and hasn't been seen winning anything.
