Route 2 is the real "first route", you can feel that the route 2 theme really has a similar feel to others route 1 themes across the main series.
Is funny that two towns with different names exists with just some meters of distance. They could very well be the same town.

I actually liked it, it never made sense to me that Pallet Town was basically fenced in by grass, meaning if Professor Oak was away on business or something a regular, Pokemon-less civilian would literally be trapped in the town without a way to defend themselves. Every starting town should have a route where it's possible to avoid encounters.
