Pokemon Sun and Moon introduce three new mechanics.
First, Noise type has been introduced, giving the following pokemon new types:
#035 Jigglypuff Noise/Fairy
#036 Wigglytuff Noise/Fairy
#100 Voltorb Electric/Noise
#101 Electrode Electric/Noise
#174 Igglybuff Noise/Fairy
#186 Politoed Water/Noise
#203 Whismur Noise
#204 Loudred Noise
#205 Exploud Noise
#358 Chimecho Psychic/Noise
#362 Glalie Ice/Noise
#401 Kricketot Noise/Bug
#402 Kricketune Noise/Bug
#433 Chingling Psychic/Noise
#441 Chatot Noise/Flying
#667 Fire/Noise
#668 Fire/Noise
#714 Noibat Noise/Dragon
#715 Noivern Noise/Dragon
The starters evolve into final types of Water/Psychic, Fire/Bug and Grass/Noise
There are 72 new pokemon, 7 of which are legendaries and 9 of which have the new type.
Secondly, the type chart has been drastically simplified. Each type now has one weakness, one resistance, and one non effective type pairing
And lastly, EVs have been removed and replaced with PokeBond. An additional IV which starts at 0 and is changed through various mechanics and covers the luck mechanic as well as strengthening a pokemon's stats.
Trainer pokemon also have specific PokeBonds that increase as you progress through the story.

Pyroar and Litleo are understandable. They are Normal Type so they can STAB off of Sound-based moves like Hyper Voice, and their signature move is Noble Roar.
