I think they're trying to say that the pattern is that it alternates between adding things and not adding things.

Yellow is a special edition so that makes sense that FRLG didn't have anything added from Yellow.
Yellow is not the 3rd version, Blue is.

I'm going on the theory that third versions will be remade when the current remakes are too old.
So DP remakes wont have much platinum, but probably after BW remakes we'll get like a yellow remake or something.

Thing is FRLG didn't add anything because there wasn't anything to add.
The Crystal elements didn't really change the game as much as add small gimmicks to it.
Emerald in comparison to RS was a totally different story and the same goes to Platinum.
There's not really a pattern to be had with that angle.

1: GameFreak wants dem remake shekels
2: 4th gen feels very dated now with 3D graphics being the norm now so a remake would give the games new life

They could easily churn out a VC release putting less money into the game but getting a larger profit.

Seeing as the game is technically sound there's no real reason to waste money and remake it, just repeat what they did with RBY and make it Bank compatible to rake in the extra shekles lost because it won't be full priced.
That way they'll only have to spend money on the development of a new game and players will be satisfied.
Seeing as ORAS used an updated Hoenn Pokedex, it's safe to assume that Sinnoh remakes would at least use Platinum's Pokedex.

Not platinum specifically, but I'm sure diamond and pearl will eventually. I would be very surprised if they didn't use platinum's updated dex.

I didn't like the Sinnoh region though. I wish I could make a "rule" bashing the even-numbered gens, but I liked Johto well enough.
