Uh because in Gen 1 you have no idea what a move does until you teach it and use it. Having 'daimonji' gives you absolutely no hints while 'fire blast' is pretty self explanatory.

I don't think it should be Daimonji in English, but calling it "Fire Blast" just takes away the whole meaning of the attack. It is (was) supposed to be the most powerful Fire attack and "Fire Blast" is the best you can do?
