It's similar to a Mega Evolution in the fact that the Pokemon needs a strong bond with the trainer and it's temporary, but another aspect of it is that the trainer and Pokemon need to be completely in sync in order to achieve the form. Due to this synchronization any pain the Pokemon feels is also felt by the trainer, in this case if Greninja is attacked while in this form Ash feels the same pain, but currently Greninja hasn't fully achieved the form so Ash doesn't feel too much pain from it. Which leads me to believe that when they have full synchronization that if Greninja faints Ash could possibly black out. According to the anime this form has only been achieved once before a few hundred years ago, which lead people to think the Eternal Floette was this other account of it and that it took on traits of AZ, but they forget that said Floette was around 3000 years ago and according to the lore behind AZ he was given the Eternal Floette by his late mother before she died, meaning they aren't a part of the same concept.

That was him speculating. He has no other proof that supports his theory other than it using mega evolution energy (infinity energy in the games). Both the Zygarde forms and the primals use mega evolution energy as well.
