I have over 100 pokedolls all MWT and live near St. Louis. I get mine off eBay and once I had a solid collection I joined the pkmncollectors livejournal to get good deals on a lot of pokedolls. In the beginning one of my past managers used to go disneyworld where they have pokedolls at the Epcot center and I'd give her cash to get me some lol. But since then I just get mine through picky internet shopping. It's doable, you just have to watch out for bootlegs.

If you're looking at a doll on Amazon/eBay and want to make sure it's not bootleg or just a fake stock photo ask for more photos of the doll. Ask for pictures of its tush tag and hang tag so that you can compare it to the real thing. And if they can't or won't provide more photos move on.

Fairly high. I'm pretty sure those sorta businesses get their items from China, but it's not as if all of them sell fakes. Just do some research and familiarize yourself with fake/real plushies and go for it. If you're going to the con solely to get access to the dealer's hall, I'd say go on the first day in the morning when they'll have all their stock available. If it's only for one day it shouldn't be that much of a waste of money if you can't find anything good.

What's the best way to store/display plushies? I keep my figures on shelves, but plushies don't stand up as well as they do and I'm starting to get so many that it's not feasible to keep them all there. I have a couch in my room that I guess I could put them on, but I like having it free for sitting.

I keep mine on my headboard, but even that's running our of space. I'm going to need more space too.
Maybe you could get a bookshelf for them, if you don't already. Even if they don't stand up well you can usually angle them against the back well enough.
