If they're a main part of my team I usually have to, and I go by puns mostly, especially if a theme run.
For my Sinking Sapphire, doing a 3-stage line from each gen with no type overlap.
Gen 1 - ?
Gen 2 - Quilava named Lavarine
Gen 3 - Sceptile named Dragrostis
Gen 4 - Togekiss named Faerial
Gen 5 - Dewott named Seamurai
Gen 6 - Honedge named Wawraith
I always do. I like feeling attached to my Pokemon just like my irl pets.

I like the added variety it gives, but traded Pokemon should still be able to be renamed. It was a sin back in Gen I, it's still a sin now
The worst part is being unable to breed and make your own, better nicknames. Only thing inherently worse is the existence of IVs the literal Aryan Master Race of Pokemon
Usually no because that's autistic, but I've nicknamed four out of the 20 BR boxes I have
A Scyther named Strike, a Staraptor named Rapace, a Charizard named Lizardon and a Greninja named Gekkouga
Not the most original nicknames since three of them are literally their Japanese games but they work

I nickname pokemon that I EV train up and use competitively, but for the main story, never.
I think it's cause I switch around my team a LOT in the story and I can't be arsed to think of that many name.
