Gardevoir, or se-naito (Sir Knight), is based on a samurai. Its "female dress" is actually reminicent of the traditional under guard of a samurai. Its pokedex entries talk about it being willing to give its life for a trainer, which is one of the rules of being a samurai. The pink spike through its chest is a throwback to a samurai story of the early eto period.

Before you rule me out I'll say that Gardevoir is sort androgynous in design if you look passed the 'dress', but I always took it as Game Freak attempting to create what they think is a cool name with English words and completely fucking it up because they have no grasp of English grammar. There's almost nothing Knightly about "Sirknight" in design. Looks more like some kind of disturbed, humanoid abomination. Many Japanese names for Pokemon can be downright bad at times, especially the early ones
