Aurorus works great in the lower tiers, which is more than 80% of fully evolved mons can say.
It has quite a few distinct niches (SR lead with Snow Warning disrupting other leads and scaring off most defoggers by virtue of its typing being the main one), good abilities, movepool and just enough offense to make use of its great dual STAB combo.
People need to stop acting like it's Sunflora tier or something like that just because LOL ICE TYPE.
It's not great, but it's good.

The type and stats doesn't help much in battle, but the design is pretty good, the Tyrantrum and Aurorus duo is one of the best ones.
Blame the conservation of greatness.
You see, fossils are typically only given enough design energy to produce two mediocre/okay Pokemon. For Tyrantrum to end up as great as it is, it had to hog most of that energy and leave Aurorus crippled.
