Yokai's monsters all have highly expressive faces. Klefki's facial features are just holes.
Also, Klefki is at least in part based on a yokai, so the similarities make sensd. Just like how Shuppet could fit in with Yokai.

Those are some of the better gen 5 designs so I can forgive her for klefki (albeit it has grown on me at this point)
i like what's klefki supposed to be, and i think it delivers spot on.
it's a fairy (a yokai if you want) that steals people's keys. The chain part is supposed to be its hands and you can see that when he faints.
