Holy shit I remember reading that when I was younger.

It was the Pokemon book with Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar that got me into reading at a young age though. I remember before touching those I would avoid reading because I found it extremely boring, but I loved that book so much I just sort of became a black hole and read everything in the library till I graduated. Holy shit I'm extremely nostalgic now for it and want to read it again.

GSC batteries wore out faster due to the fact they had to keep track of time. Just replace them, it'll be okay. There's a ton of guides on how to do if you don't know how to. It's literally a ten minute job.

I still have the ancient mew, and a poliwhirl and jigglypuff gold tablet laying around somewhere. They're breddy neat
>>
>>25066275

Why did Poliwhirl fail to become one of the key flagship pokemon?

Was it just lack of anime appearances? He's one of the most unique and eye-catching designs, and they were pushing him a little back in the day.
>>
>>25068677
I was at the perfect age of 7 when the hype hit big time.

Old enough to understand how to play the games, not old enough to understand most shit beyond type advantages.
Playing the games felt like a literal adventure.

Also, was at the perfect age for suckering parents into buying me all the shit.

I feel sorry for pokéfans who didn't live the golden ages.

Pokémon was way too big. Such an experience lived by a young and impressionable kid can't be explained into words. It was your addictive fantasy world breathing alive at every corner of the real life world, it appeared on the news, on school, on the supermarket, on the cereal and milk you drink every morning. Your friends knew about it, your distant cousins knew about it, the bullies at school knew about it, those poor third worlder kids knew about it, your church, teachers and everyone knew about it. It had no competition and the entire capitalist machine working to support it.
The social and technological state of the world in the late 90's was at the exact point to turn anything big into an unstoppable monster. And Pokémon took that place.

My stepdad had this lying around in his storage unit for like 15 years ago.

A few years back he was having a garage sale, and I saw it sitting in a plastic tupperware container. Had the sticker "videogame, $5" on it.

Asked him where he got it and why it isn't opened, he told me he got it as a gift for someone's kid he was dating years ago but they broke up and he never got to give it to her.

Keep in mind he's like 46 and knows nothing about videogames.

This is the real deal.

All too well. I joined the hype after having moved across the country, where every kid on the block was obsessed with Pokemon and had the cards.

These were the only three I kept out of the 15+ Chanseys I ended up with back then. They're a little beat up, and one has what I think is bite marks from a cat.

In Kindergarten we had what was called the "treasure chest" where we could pick a toy to keep on Fridays if we had perfect behavior for that week. We could also donate toys, so I was dumping my spare Chanseys there. I also gave some to my cousin. Never once did I get a Charmander or Poliwhirl, and I wanted them so bad.

Now that I'm thinking about them, I'll probably hit up eBay so I can settle a 15 year old delima.

I missed most of it. I only really got into the anime and it was mainly reruns of the original series. Pokemon johto was pretty cool though. I never got into the games because I probably couldn't afford it. I eventually got a GBA but it was stolen so I never even got to play gen 3 games. I got a couple of pokemon cards which was pretty fun to have but not to play. I think I missed most of pokemon because I was also into yu-gi-oh and digimon. I eventually got back into pokemon but I missed most of "pokemania" even if I was there for most of it. The people who got most of it were the people who went full pokemon from day one and never stopped. On average people like me would never get into anything that much.
