For a couple of reasons, friend anon!
1: I do not own a microphone, nor can I get one on a college student's nonexistent budget
2: The players are spread across multiple time zones, and class schedules make it nigh-on impossible to get consistent timing for a game
3: A number of people have quite shitty internet, making a live connection a trying endeavor at best
4: We can get by perfectly well with a Skype group chat
