If a move has an effect in gen 1, it is the correct effect. Other games may have changed the effect to something else, but gen 1 is correct in all things pertaining to pokemon.

Having recently replayed Red on emulator, it's quite_____fun.
The meta is an entirely different beast. Critical hits makes Tauros, Jolteon and Persian viable.
Fire spin and Wrap are literally hitler.
Getting Frozen is a death sentence (enjoy those 130BP, 90% accuracy Blizzards).
Also, for in-game, Gengar single-handedly stops most-everything cold since the AI is retarded and will often only carry Normal moves.
The only reason I'd play this would be to fulfill a childhood wish of catching them all.
But besides that it's just gen 1. Fire red and Leaf green were great remakes. I don't see the need to play the originals again.

Turns out, quite a lot. I had filled my Pokédex by the 25th hour mark for RBY. 251 by around hour 70 in GSC. No trading, no AR cheat codes used, just bugs.

For RBY: The extended Mew Glitch:
Basically, encounter a long-range trainer (west of Lavender city or the grass patch near nugget bridge). Immediately press start, yada yada. All you need to encounter any Pokémon you want is you need to face a pokémon with Special stat same as the Pokémon's index number (eg: for Mew you need to face a Pokémon with a special stat of 14 iirc). You can exploit it by facing ditto, which can transform into your lead Pokémon, copy their special stat allowing you to face just the Pokémon you want.
Catch a few Abra, lvl-up via rare candies from MissingNo until they hit right index number (eg: I think Charmander is 187), then face a ditto and catch the Pokémon. Easy.

Have a specific set of items in your item bank, have a Pokémon with low DVs in third spot of party and a Quagsire with Protein held and Sleep Talk as its first move in your fourth slot. You can now edit the game's code.

its a glitch that makes you encounter a pokemon you are not intended to encounter, with its species determined basically by the pokemon of the trainer you used to activate it (whatever that one guy north of nugget bridge has, rolls species number of glitch to mew in that case).
