can we all agree that Gen 4 has the best starters?
Gen 4 has the best trio, but Treecko is the bestPurely design-wise

How anyone can say gen 1 wasn't the best is beyond me. Everything after that is just trying too hard to be gen 1.

1 is the best, and I think that mostly because of how unified Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charmander's designs are. Gen 2's are as well but to a significantly lesser extent, and after that the starter trios feel way less unified as a whole.
But Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charmander? Similar colours, similar facial structure, 3 different types of reptile properly distinguished by their proportions and element, they're great.

-Empoleon's low speed stat makes Gen 4's pacing even more excruciating, and it not learning Flash Cannon as a level up move is asinine.
-Torterra suffers from being an all round shitmon in general. Worst typing out of anything that isn't named Aurorus.

How many niggas do you know that don't have a strong fire or ice type in general for all the things that aren't torterra? Like say Gliscor, or scizor? Or ferrothorn? Garchomp or dragonite?
Torterra is shit but has weaknesses that heavily overlap with things that aren't shit, making those weaknesses highly prevalent and doubly screwing him over.

Greninja's tongue scarf never even really felt like his tongue to me and just looked like a disconnected pink sock, mostly because we don't have clear enough shots of it coming out of his mouth. He and his design would benefit significantly from one or two animations where the tongue unravels to help show its prehensile nature wrapping around his head.

Well yeah, that's the point. Nobody carries anything specifically for torterra because why carry anything specifically for a shitmon. What they actually do however is carry Ice Punch/Ice Beam/HP Ice for coverage and fuck it INCIDENTALLY.

I think gen one has the best starters (and no I didn't grow up playing fire red) I actually started with gen four and I do love them but I love the first gen more but 4th is my second fav
4 = 1 > 3 = 6 > 2 > 5
Gen 2 at least had a couple of decent starters. 5 didn't even really have that. And I say that as someone who likes Gen 5.

There isn't really a single set of starters I entirely love. I'd pick Gen VI or III if I have to come to a decision. Then V, IV, II, and I.

Serperior is possibly the worst of the lot. Samurott's line started shit and ended shit, Snivy started promising and spiraled into disappointment. All the "le smugleaf" memes in the world can't save that mess of a design.
