I think that a Origins styled anime (with even better caution to details) with 20 episodes would be great, more time to develop the progress, and absolutely no fillers, just the game story with some modifications to fit the anime media better.

I get what you mean in terms of plot.
Don't know if 26 episodes would be the optimal choice, having to cram 8 gyms and the Elite Four in that amount would make it extremely repetitive. Maybe 52 episodes would be the right amount to both avoid repetitiveness and bloat.

I feel like Pokémon games are at their strongest in terms of polish when put into other hands, so why not try with television? A short spin off anime done by Kyoani or the guys who did Sankarea could be really cool, or if you're willing to be even more liberal with the license, put it in the hands of western studios like Frederator or the guys who put together Over The Garden Wall
I'd really love to see a series about a Nat Geo type journalist in the Pokemon world, or even something to do with the International Police, there's just so much potential

Hyouka was a huge waste of an animation budget. It reminded me of Death Note at times, where they had to randomly throw in overblown sequences to showcase the animation, because the series itself was too mundane to really take advantage of the budget.
