She's a communications professor actually, and it's part of a study she's doing, not her major. This is how academia is today man. The humanities are drenched in this retarded shit and it isn't uncommon actually. Most people just don't realize it because a lot of them are straight up sophists and you never see their "studies".
This is why you study STEM, (or Law and Economics in the humanities) in college, because no one in their right mind takes the humanities seriously anymore aside from the humanities.
